| It is proposed to close educational institutions from November 20 |
Islamabad's latest newspaper. November 16, 2020: Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mahmood presided over the Inter-Provincial Education Ministers Conference in which all the provincial ministers participated through video link. The meeting discussed the closure of educational institutions and the winter holidays. According to details, it was said in the meeting that corona cases in educational institutions have increased to a dangerous level.
Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mahmood said that the lives of children and teachers are more dear. Protecting children and teachers is our number one priority. The meeting proposed to grant winter vacations in educational institutions from November 20 to January 31. Some participants supported and some opposed the issue of winter vacations in educational institutions.
It was said in the meeting that instead of closing down educational institutions, smart lockdown should be considered.
The meeting also discussed the issue of starting the academic year from August 1. According to sources, the meeting participants decided not to close universities and colleges. According to media reports, a meeting of inter-provincial education ministers will be held again next week to review the situation. On the other hand, an NCC meeting will be held this evening which will be chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan himself.
The meeting will also be attended by the Health Minister and Chief Secretaries. The final decision on winter vacations in educational institutions will be made. Remember that the second wave of corona virus has intensified across the country. Yesterday, former Special Assistant for Health Dr Zafar Mirza had called for early winter break in educational institutions to curb the spread of corona.
"We are not saying that schools should be closed indefinitely, only the recommendations of the NCOC should be followed and the winter holidays should be extended a little earlier," he said. It may be recalled that earlier Punjab Education Minister Murad Rass had opposed the winter holidays and said that no decision had been taken to close schools in Punjab.
I don't think there should be a winter vacation. On the other hand, Kashif Mirza, President All Pakistan President, All Pakistan Private Schools Federation, has issued a clear statement that schools will not be closed again, while rejecting the government's proposal to close schools, saying that due to lack of time There will be no winter holidays. He also rejected the proposal to hold the academic year till August instead of April.
SOPs are being implemented only in schools. Corona has already caused irreparable damage to the education of millions of students. "We are not satisfied with online education," he said. In online education, students do not pay attention to teachers. However, the final decision on winter vacations in educational institutions will be taken this evening at a meeting of the National Coordinating Committee chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan.
