Karachi (March 03, 2021): The government failed to get a majority in the Senate, unofficial preliminary results of all the seats came out, the ruling coalition had 47 seats while the opposition had 53 seats. According to the details, unofficial preliminary results of the voting in the Provincial Assemblies and the National Assembly have come to light in connection with the election of a total of 48 seats in the Senate.
According to the overall unofficial preliminary results received so far, the ruling party PTI has the upper hand. The PTI won 18 new seats and a total of 28 seats. The PPP has won 8 new and 21 seats, while the PML-N has won 5 new and 18 seats. While BAP got 6 new and 12 seats in total.
Besides, MQM Pakistan has also got 3 seats in total, PML-Q has won one seat.
Independent candidates have also won 6 seats so far. However, the PTI failed to secure a majority in the House despite being the largest party in the Senate. The PTI and its allies have six seats less than the opposition in the Senate. It is to be noted that elections were held for 37 seats of the Senate today for which the polling process started at 9 am and continued till 5 pm.
Polling for the Senate elections took place in the National and three Provincial Assemblies. Polling continued uninterrupted. Unopposed elections had already been completed for 12 seats in Punjab, so there was no voting in the Punjab Assembly today. Out of 341 members of the National Assembly, 340 cast their votes, while Jamaat-e-Islami National Assembly member Maulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali did not cast his vote.
There is no member from NA-75 Daska in the National Assembly as the Election Commission has announced re-election here. Polling was held for 2 seats in Islamabad, 11 in Sindh, 12 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 12 in Balochistan. Members of the Provincial Assembly voted for the provincial seats. Members of the National Assembly cast their votes for 2 seats in Islamabad. Dr. Abdul Hafeez Sheikh of PTI and Yousuf Raza Gilani of Pakistan Democratic Movement competed in the general seat of Islamabad.
